Privacy policies, Apple watch and Sex what!!??

This is my first podcast review. At first I wasn't sure what podcast was really about, is it a tv show, radio show, a talk show or a combination of all. Then I found out it radio show, but with something to everyday or something different. I was also amaze that anyone and anybody can create their own podcasts on varies types of subjects that they like, for example they can talk about movies, sports, politics, education, cars, hunting, fishing etc. And I think the best part is, that you can podcast from anywhere also, in your car, bathroom, in line at the groceries or at a rock band concert. It's proven, you can do it from anywhere.

I didn't really have a podcast show in mind. Although, I do know about TedTalk, but I wanted to listen to a different show and that's when I found a famous podcast audio and show called Wired from the UK. Episode 235 is hosted by James Temperton, Katie Collins and Cara Mcgoogan. Each of these episodes are about 30-40 minutes long, but they cover a varieties of topics.

The first topic was about private policies, where security company like AVG, are able to view, collect data, search browser history and share it to third party members. I have AVG, and now I feel like I need to opt out and find something different. You would expect more from these security companies but while there are many free security packages, they need to make money in some way, so in a way. These third parties are there ticket. To, avoid this problem, all you have to do is, read and agree to the terms and policy before it's finalized, but who can honestly say that they've read all the terms and conditions? I know for sure I never do.

The Apple watch, although some people may think it's the coolest thing ever made, I'm starting to think it's not that great. Katie Collins says she uses it mostly for traveling purposes and locating local, hotels, restaurants, stores etc, but she hardly ever uses it on the daily. To me, if I can't use it on the daily, it's really not such a great tool in my opinion and it's expensive. Some cools things Katie mention was that it can navigate to your hotel, it give you the time and place of when your flight will be and your free of hands. I find it that I need to have my phone with me at all times, there are just some thing that my phone can do that a watch can't and I really need to see everything in full size and not in a 1 inch screen.

Lastly they talked about sex robots and how there's a campaign trying to ban sex robots. James stated that it increases objectification and dehumanizes women and children. I feel like it's un-humane like to go that far with a robot. When two individuals makes love, theirs usually a physical and emotional connection, but with a robot it's mainly more physical. However, in a sense, robots where made to perfect what humans really can't do. They mention that now you can create your own robot to have a personality and looks that you desire. Again, it's un-humane like to now be able to create your own robot, I feel like people will become to addictive in creating the perfect person and will destroy their personal life.

These topics make me think about the next generation and what they will acquired. I have a feeling that everything we do, everything we sign up online or offline will always be seen and that our freedom will always be taken from us. How we should love the gadgets we have and as long as it can do the simple task like calling and texting and that these new technology is just a way of status.

Look!! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...flying drones.

This will be my first TedTalk report, which I’m pretty excited to do. I’ve seen other TedTalk videos before and I feel that a lot of them, are very interesting in their own ways.
I did a summary on paper of two videos, but I’ll just be writing a report about one of them. There where so many interesting topics to choose from. Luckily, I came across one that really struck me by Andreas Raptopoulos. He titled it, “No roads? There’s a drone for that.”

I chose this video because a week ago, I was watching a popular show called “Shark Tank”. Where 5 wealthy, self-made billionaire invest their money in a rising and possibly up-coming entrepreneurs. These young entrepreneurs job is to convince one of the shark to invest in their idea or invention. In one episode, two contestant presented to them flying drones, called XCraft. After their speech and presentation, they somehow convinced all 5 sharks to be a part of their company. I was blown away when they strike a deal with each shark for 300k for 5%. I knew then, that something great is going to happened in the near future and that’s why I chose to do this TedTalk video.

With that being said, I think Andreas have a really strong argument about having these drones in areas where there are no road and proper transportation for medicine or medical services. Just think about it, a ride or day too late can be a matter of life and death in some part of the world. What really impresses me is how durable these drones are in different weather climates of hot, cold and windy days.

Andreas had a great presentation with live and visual power point slide of the drone in action. He even had one fly to him on stage, which I thought looks very mobile and lightweight. There were several questions that he had mention but I think the one that stood out the most was, how much it would cost a person to use one, it isn’t too pricey but in developing countries, it’ll still be a financial issue to activate one.

Although there wasn’t any humor, this presentation was very well organized and focus driven. Yet, I believe lots of questions still remains as these drones are being tested each and every day. They’ll be put to the real test as billions are without transportation.

The Socail Media Tool

Social media have changed the world in just over the last 15 plus years. In this week blog I will be comparing two companies that utilizes two very famous social media tool, Twitter and Facebook.

First up on the line is the SportsCenter vs Walmart through facebook. Starting with Sportscenter page, it has about 11.7 million like with a release date in 1979. Walmart have about 3 times as many like, coming in at about 32.7 million likes, with a release date in 1962. I think Facebook have been a great tool for these two companies. They both are promoting great deals and special events that will be coming up. Like, for instance Walmart is advertising their great looks for the fall with the season changing. On top of that, they are promoting some of their best merchandises that are ONLY available at Walmart.com. I guess this is a way of interacting with their customers, by getting them to shop more online and at the same time advertising their new items.

SportsCenter, however have a different approach. Unlike Walmart, I feel like their audience is determined by what sport that is going on during that season. For example, it’s the NFL season and most of the headliner will be about the NFL. But, the SportsCenter isn’t just about professional athletes, there are also highlights from sports all over the world. Whether it’s how many weeks Tony Romo will be out to a freshman running back in high school rushing for over 300 yards and 6 touchdowns.
With over 11 million users, SportsCenter have found a way to keep their audience and that is to post up any game highlights and breaking news in sports.

Let’s move away from Facebook and move on to their Twitter accounts. Walmart have about 700k followers and about 370k tweets. Whereas, SportsCenter have about 21 million followers and 66.2k tweets. Walmart still advertise and promotes their great shopping deals of the season however I think their best audience comes from a partnership through Walmart, for instance a band called TheVamps tweeted

There was several tweets that TheVamps tweeted out about Walmart and it had been retweeted several hundred times already.
SportsCenter seems to really interact with their audience. The Seahawks just beat the Lions and theirs a controversy of the officials calling a bad play.  Within minutes after the game ended, SportsCenter already updated their tweets 10 times about that particular situation. SportsCenter even asked a question and over time it becomes and discussion post for anyone.

Overall, both companies utilizes their social media tools really well. Engaging and keeping their audiences entertained and waiting for the next big news or event to be posted

Why I am at MATC

WHY I AM AT MATC???

I graduated high school in the spring of 2010. College was next in line for me and I knew I wanted to be someone or somebody in the medical field. It didn't matter what I was going to be, just as long as it was medical related. I soon realized that nothing in the medical field was for me, even though I really wished it was.

Senior year was coming to an end, and I had apply to 3 campuses: MATC, UW-Sheboygan and UW-Milwaukee with a major in radiology. Since it was my first year, I figured I'll just take my general courses prior to my major and it should give me some time to think about my career if I needed to.

I was certain about my major right after high school, I end up going to UW-Sheboygan for one year to save me some money. I then transferred to UW-Milwaukee for about 2 and a half years. My time at UW-Milwaukee was great, I learned a lot, met a lot of new people that where in the same major as me, but that campus was really hard and competitive. In the fall of 2013 I ended up at MATC still majoring in radiology as well, but since MATC was a tech school I figured I would get my associates, go into the workforce and if I ever decided to go back to school I’ll have some experience. Fall of 2014 came and I couldn't handle the work load of being a radiology tech student anymore. Plus on top of all the work, I was being held on a waitlist for about a semester or 2 before I can start applying for clinical. I wasn’t going to wait, because I really wanted to graduate.

Therefore in the fall of 2015, I have decided to change my major to IT-Network Specialist and I never looked back since. I'm going on my 3rd semester in this program and I'm loving it. There’re lots of hands on activity that I wish other schools would also do, all the professors where helpful and they strive to teach you everything there is to know about the field, basically you will learn everything you need to know, once you get out in the workforce.

I made this transition because I knew that technology will soon change the world if it haven’t yet. The future is technology, and I chose to grow with it. I’ve heard from many people that their job is being taken over by robots and that’s why they are sitting in this room with me. These are people who got a degree in medical lab scientist, in nursing, in radiology and so on, but because they were replaced by robots they went back to school.

I regret not making this decision sooner. Who was I kidding, I only did radiology so my parents would be proud, but don't get me wrong. I did like learning about all the anatomy and physiology of every bone, muscle, tissue, organ, limb, etc of the human body. It was really interesting and I've learned a lot, but somehow I couldn't see myself doing it even though I would have loved to go that route.
